This week I was asked to write a guest post for This Week In Mentalists, and this is what I wrote...
When I started writing my blog last year, I was looking for a way out
of the paralysing fog of mental illness, just as surely as if I were
the patient, instead of my daughter. Julie was fifteen, and by then had
spent the best part of a year in a psychiatric unit for adolescents.
We were battered and bruised by our roller coaster ride through the ups
and downs of her illness, and by the constant struggle to wrest back our
lives from the grip of the psychiatric world. I was looking for a
place where I could release some of the strain I was carrying, rant
about some of the things I hated, and rationalise some of what was
happening to us.
